Senator John Braun
Washington State Senate
Sen. John Braun was elected to the Washington State Senate, in 2012, to represent the 20th Legislative District, including most of Cowlitz and Lewis counties and parts of Clark and Thurston counties.
John serves as vice-chair of the Senate Trade and Economic Development Committee and vice chair of the Senate Commerce and Labor Committee, vice-chair of the Senate Ways & Means Committee and as the Senate Deputy Majority Leader.
He has taken the lead on issues related to business competitiveness. John has sponsored measures that would limit cities’ ability to mandate sick-leave entitlement on employers from outside their municipal boundaries, allow business license renewal online, restrict the frequency of sales tax changes, and provide a good faith defense for employers.
John is president of Braun Northwest, a family-owned company in business since 1986. The firm specializes in building emergency vehicles (Motorists traveling just south of Chehalis can see Braun Northwest on the east side of Interstate 5, between the exits to LaBree and Rush roads.). He, his wife Marlo and their four children reside on a small farm in rural Lewis County, outside Centralia.
Prior to his business career John served on active duty in the U.S. Navy; he continues to serve as a commander in the Naval Reserve. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Washington and Master’s degrees in business administration and manufacturing engineering from the University of Michigan.
