Kevin has spent his entire life on the coast and in the ocean and is an avid surfer, swimmer, fisherman, sailor and runner. Kevin Ranker concurrently serves as a Washington State Senator and as a Senior Partner at Coast Policy Group (CPG), a Seattle based environmental consulting firm.

For two decades Kevin has brought his passion for the coast and ocean to his professional career with CPG where he serves as a senior advisor to numerous international organizations, philanthropic foundations and national thought-leaders. He has focused his expertise on community and economic development and the advancement of ocean, energy and climate policy.

First elected to the Washington State Senate in 2008 and reelected in 2012, Kevin has established a name for himself as an outspoken advocate for the environment, equality and civil rights. In 2014, Kevin was elected to serve as the Assistant Ranking Member on the powerful Ways and Means Committee responsible for the budget for Washington State. Previously, he served as Chair of the Energy, Environment and Telecommunications Committee.

In 2011, he received a White House appointment to serve as an Advisor to President Obama’s National Ocean Council and in 2013, Kevin was elected President of the Pacific Northwest Economic Region, a statutory partnership of ten U.S. states and Canadian provinces and territories working to increase economic wellbeing and coordinate energy, economic and environmental strategies throughout the Pacific Northwest region.

Kevin lives with his wife and daughter on Orcas Island while his son proudly serves in the U.S. Army.
